The project stems from the need to give technological responses through new CSP configurations and hybrid renewable power plants to displace conventional fossil fuel generation by implementing of Smart Renewable Hubs for flexible generation.
The challenge to change the approach encourages Gridsol to propose new solutions to maximise RES penetration in the grid. The project focuses on solving renewable electricity integration at generation level, through Smart Renewable Hubs. Gridsol concept includes a new advanced system called “Dynamic Output Manager of Energy” (DOME) to stabilize the electricity grid. This approach changes the overview of this kind of systems and leads to improve the grid operation flexibility. In Madrid, the project coordinator, Jose Miguel Estebaranz from Cobra Energy, presented the focuses of the research:
- Optimisation of CSP Multi-tower configuration.
- Development of DOME.
- Methodology assessment for Smart Renewable Hubs implementation.
- Assessment of Gridsol plant in continental and island scenarios.
With a total budget of 3,4 million euros from the EC and through the shared political commitment of the partner countries and a participatory approach, Gridsol aims at building an effective cooperation framework for the development of the project. The consortium members, who will actively work on their assigned tasks, will meet regularly to share their work results of the investigation in order to develop and validate technology-based approaches.
