- COBRA and IDIE disseminate GRIDSOL project to establish opportunities for knowledge and technology sharing in the field of CSP hybridisation.
The 23rd SolarPACES 2017 International Conference was held from September 26-29, 2017 in Santiago de Chile (Chile), and brought together more than 470 participants from 37 countries around the globe. As traditionally, the conference highlighted the latest advances in research, development, and commercial deployment of concentrating solar power (CSP) technologies around the world, with a focus on reducing costs while increasing performance, and the specific potential of CSP technologies to offer dispatchable power through thermal energy storage (TES) and hybridization.
Two of the members of the Consortium, Cobra Group as leader and IDIE as partner attended the 2017 conference, for the first time, to disseminate the project. The goal was to release the innovative project and the collective work during the first year of GRIDSOL project for delivering the next generation technologies of renewable electricity.
The project presented a case study for Crete (Greek Island) comparing different solutions to reach 80% renewable energy content. The study highlighted the convenience of a GRIDSOL plant (CSP+PV+GT+BES) versus other alternative solutions.
The conference topics covered the whole field of CSP technologies, including the political and commercial framework conditions worldwide.
